This was a new writing method to me, and I kinda loved it. Using a photo as a prompt for a story -wild ride. Many thanks to the hosts of the #FallWritingFrenzy: Kaitlyn Sanchez and Lydia Lukidis and to all those donating to the prizes as well! You can check out the competition here: https://lydialukidis.wordpress.com/ The skinny: use one or more of the photo prompts and write something 200 words or less! I wish I'd seen the info for this writing competition a little earlier as I know I have better in me, but this exercise did launch some new ideas that I'm excited about! I'm hoping to get those stories down soon, but until then, here is my picture book story inspired by the attached photo (Halloween- Credit: Danielle Rae). THANK BOO! 200 words by Kristi Newsome Helen the witch had the best friends. They all helped create the most spooktacular Halloween every year. Helen wanted her friends to know how grateful she was, so she got to work. She brewed a delicious purple potion, but Kyle Skeleton couldn’t keep it in. She dipped a spooky black candle but Tari Mummy caught fire. She knitted a warm orange sweater but Jack-o-Lantern couldn’t wear it. “Now my friends will never know how much I love them!” she wailed and took all her gifts out to dump them in the lake. Kyle happened by, clanking a bit from the cold. [Illustration: Helen’s “Aha!” moment] Helen handed him the orange sweater. It was perfect for him. He smiled, “Thank boo!” Helen found Tari as she was rewrapping her foot. She handed the purple potion to Tari just as Tari’s stomach give the biggest gurgle. “Thank boo! I haven’t eaten anything in centuries!” Tari explained. “I know!” said Helen. It was perfect for her. Helen found Jack-o-Lantern on his step and handed him the black candle. “Thank boo for your Halloween help!” she said. “Why thank boo! My candle always burns out at Halloween time!” And it was perfect for him.
